Abstract

Historically, open access (OA) scientific articles have been more cited than non-OA. This comparison was made in forest ecology by means of 164 articles from 41 journals of prestigious publishers for the years 2015 and 2018. It was found that in this discipline, OA articles are also more cited than non-OA articles, and while the impact factor (IF) of the journal, number of authors, references and pages are higher, so are their citations. No differences were found (P = 0.58) in the generation of new knowledge measured through citations in journals with IF >10.
