Evaluación de Pd, Pt y Rh en aire y suelos en la Ciudad de México
Abstract
The concentration of Platinum Group Elements (PGE for its acronym in English) was determined in air (PM2.5 and PM10) and soil samples from various sites in Mexico City during the rainy season (period august-september 2018). The elements of the platinum group object of this study were those used in the automotive industry to manufacture three-way catalytic converters. The metals were quantified by the Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry method (ICP-MAS), the analytical method for the quantification of these metals was validated, obtaining in all cases an R greater than 0.995 and percentages of 95 %, 93% and 100% recovery for Rh, Pd and Pt, respectively; the behavior of elements 89Y, 115In, 175Lu and 209Bi was evaluated to be used as internal standard. In the case of Rh, analysis with internal standard itwas not possible. The air samples showedhigh concentrations despite having takenthe samples on days where good air qualitywas reported. The element with the highestconcentration in both particulate matterand soil was Pd.
