Abstract

In the world there are six species of wild sheep that inhabit the mountain ranges of Europe, Asia and North America. One of them is the bighorn sheep; animal whose distribution includes the desert mountain ranges of northwestern Mexico; region where it is a highly valued species and therefore its conservation is sought through the management of its populations. This management consists of addressing the problems faced by the species in the places where it is distributed: lack of water, disease spread, habitat destruction, poaching, among other. On the other hand, the management of the bighorn sheep is based on the results of the monitoring of their populations since these are the scientific basis that guides decision-making.
