¿Por qué los fármacos son contaminantes del ambiente?
Abstract
This study briefly explains that the pharmaceutical active compounds (PhACs) are the molecules that contain the medicines. It is mentioned where they are obtained from and the benefit of these compounds in today’s life. In fact, it is unthinkable to imagine life without the help of medicines, since they are used to cure, treat, control diseases and pain. It is mentioned which is the pathway that PhACs follow within human and/or animal organisms until they are excreted and finally the fate of these compounds until they reach natural water sources. Finally, it is explained why the presence of these compounds in natural water sources are considered pollutants. The toxicity caused by PhACs to various species of aquatic organisms is mentioned, such as malformations, reproductive problems and even death.
