Abstract

In this work we give an overview of the enormous national needs of having properly trained human resources in atmospheric sciences and what are the latter. We report research results on three problems of meteorological interest: (a) The importance of the mass balance of an atmospheric velocity field for transport models of atmospheric pollutants, (b) a method for estimating velocity fields that conserves mass with high precision, and (c) the limited spatial validity range of some computational forecasting models used in Mexico and abroad. The applications of atmospheric science research in other areas such as hydrology, oceanography, fluid mechanics in general, and medical physics are briefly described.
