Abstract

Currently, 80% of the energy in the world is generated from using systems based on fossil fuels, producing large amounts of emissions into the atmosphere, and contributing unfavorably to the Climate Change. Starting in 2015, with the Paris Agreement, several countries committed to undertaking strategies to work towards a sustainable future with low carbon emissions. A strategy to meet this objective is the Energy Transition, where it is proposed to migrate from conventional energy generation sources to alternative sources. In this sense, nuclear energy aims to be a great alternative in the Energy Transition, since it does not produce polluting emissions during its operation, and new technological designs, such as Small Modular Reactors and Generation IV reactors, allow a progressive and accessible change from the energy matrix.
