Abstract

Solar photocatalysis is presented as a potential application to the treatment of water contaminated with organic waste whose degradation is hindered by conventional means of treatment. To this end, both the characteristics of photocatalysis to degrade pollutants and the design of a photocatalytic reactor that uses reflective surfaces to concentrate solar radiation in the reactor are highlighted. Finally, based on the experience of a pilot plant of the degradation of a dye for industrial use, the potential of this technology to degrade recalcitrant compounds in wastewater is discussed.
