Abstract

Birds have inspired humans since the beginning of civilization. This has been so in Texcoco, Mexico, where the pre-Columbian inhabitants built a ceremonial center at the top of a hill, which now remains as an archaeological site and ecological reserve. We visited Tetzcotzinco to study the bird community and to document the bird sounds, especially those of the Black-chinned Sparrow. We registered the existence of several birds which are important in terms of functional ecology and as providers of ecosystemic services.
