Responsabilidad compartida entre Ciencia y Bioética en la experimentación con animales
Abstract
Bioethics in the use of animals in biomedical research aims to balance scientific progress with ethical responsibility, promoting practices that minimize animal suffering and optimize the quality of results. This paper highlights the relevance of animals in basic and clinical medical research, underlining their role in understanding biological processes and developing therapies. However, it also discusses how the adoption of principles such as the 3Rs (replacement, reduction, and refinement) has contributed to reducing their use globally, supported by advanced technologies such as organson- a-chip and computational models. In addition, it proposes the strategy of shared responsibility between Science and Bioethics that highlights the importance of global collaboration between scientists, institutions and society to guarantee humanitarian and responsible practices. Moving towards a more ethical, innovative and sustainable science requires a commitment to animal welfare, compliance with regulations and the integration of alternative approaches that respect contemporary ethical values.
